Cincinnati chef Jose Salazar is leading culinary adventurers on a trip of a lifetime through Peru in April, and he’s now adding a similar journey to Mexico next October.
Through a trip with travel company Modern Adventure, Salazar, who owns popular Cincinnati restaurants like Salazar Restaurant & Bar, Mita’s and Goose & Elder, will help lead a cultural and culinary adventure through Mexico City. The trip takes place over five days and four nights from Oct. 11-15, 2024, and will take travelers through the capital’s neighborhoods and boroughs like gritty, working-class Xochimilco and bohemian Coyoacán.
“No matter how much you know about Mexico City’s mesmerizing culture and food, this journey will teach, delight—and leave you hungry for more. Wander colorful markets, taste incredible street food and ancient Aztec ingredients, then wash it all down with the finest artisanal mezcal. This is Mexico like you’ve never imagined,” reads the description on Modern Adventure.
In Mexico City, you’ll get to taste authentic street food, Aztec ingredients and artisanal mezcal while enjoying the colorful markets, fascinating museums and historic canals. You’ll also get to go on a food-centric exploration, taking in cantinas and markets alongside Salazar and a local guide; search for the best tacos in the city; meet and speak to local chefs and makers; and roll up your sleeves for a cooking class.
In addition to the food, Mexico City is brimming with culture you’ll also get to experience. Visit Casa Azul, the iconic blue home of artist Frida Kahlo, take in a Lucha Libre fight and tour the National Museum of Anthropology and its collection of Aztec stone sculptures and murals.
This will be Salazar’s third trip with Modern Adventure, which includes the upcoming Peru trip and a trip to Morocco this past June.
“I travel to hear the stories behind the food and the people who make it,” he told Modern Adventure.
The cost of the trip starts at $7,900 per person. To see the full itinerary or book your trip, visit modernadventure.com.
