Indian Hill, Mason win state team tennis championships

The Ohio Tennis Coaches Association sponsors a team tournament after the OHSAA singles and doubles championships. Cincinnati swept the state championships at the high school team tennis tournaments sponsored by the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association. The tournaments took place in Wooster following the conclusion of the Ohio High School Athletic Association singles and doubles tournaments. Indian Hill defeated Columbus Academy 3-0 in the Division II final, while Mason defeated Upper Arlington 3-1 in the Div I final. In the DI final, Addison Cassidy won 6-2, 6-0, and Pratyusha Chaudhuri and Chloe Zhang won at first doubles. In second singles, Sophia Thompson won in second singles and second doubles, Lexi Larsen and McKenzie Stoddard won in third doubles. The team tournament is not an OHSAA-sanctioned championship.

After a strong performance in the individual state tournaments, Cincinnati swept the state championships Saturday at the high school team tennis tournaments sponsored by the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association.

The tournaments took place in Wooster following the conclusion of the Ohio High School Athletic Association singles and doubles tournaments on Friday. The team tournament is not an OHSAA-sanctioned championship.

Indian Hill beat Columbus Academy 3-0 in the Division II final at Aspen Racquet Club. Earlier in the day, Mason beat Upper Arlington 3-0 in the Division I final. Mason won its seventh consecutive title.

In the DI final at first singles, Addison Cassidy won 6-2, 6-0.

Pratyusha Chaudhuri and Chloe Zhang won at first doubles, 6-0, 6-2.

The day before, Chaudhuri won the state doubles championship in the OHSAA individual tournament with Emma Wagner.

Cassidy qualified for state in singles and lost in the first round.

Mason returns its entire state lineup next season as none of them were seniors.

In the championship match, sophomore Sophia Thompson won in second singles, 6-0, 6-1.

At second doubles, Lexi Larsen and McKenzie Stoddard won 6-3, 6-1.

Brooke Arington played first singles in the finals. She had won her first set in the championship match, which halted when the Braves won their third match to clinch the title.

In the semis, the Larsen sisters played together and won 7-5, 6-0, while Thompson and Brown completed their matches with identical 6-0, 6-0 wins.

In the OHSAA individual singles and doubles tournaments, Thompson was Division II state singles runner-up for the second-straight year, losing to Bexley’s Amiya Bowles for the second year in a row in the finals, 6-1, 6-2.

Arington and Dwyer played doubles together and lost in a tight three-set match in the state finals. The Larsen sisters paired up at state and lost in the first round in the state tourney.

Arington and Dwyer are seniors, as is Lexi Larsen.
