UC political analyst predicts outcome of Ohio Issues 1, 2 will reflect generational divide
The 2023 general election is just two weeks away and we will soon learn how Ohioans feel regarding some of the most controversial issues in the state. The 2023 general election is set to determine how Ohioans feel about controversial issues such as abortion rights and recreational pot use in Ohio. If passed, Issue One would establish an individual right to one's own reproductive medical treatment, including abortion, and Issue Two would legalize the recreational adult use of marijuana in Ohio, allowing adults 21 and over to buy and possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and to grow plants at home. However, polling shows strong support for both issues, while experts predict that the outcome will likely reflect a generational divide among voters. University of Cincinnati political analyst David Niven noted that support doesn't necessarily match how voters feel about the candidates on the ballot and that there are passionate viewpoints on both sides of each issue.

OPPORTUNITIES BY THE WAY, ELECTION DAY, JUST TWO WEEKS FROM TOMORROW. AND THAT’S WHEN WE’RE GOING TO FIND OUT HOW OHIOANS FEEL ABOUT ABORTION RIGHTS AS WELL AS RECREATION POT. BOTH ISSUES ARE ON THE STATEWIDE BALLOT IN OHIO THAT EARLY VOTERS HAVE IN FRONT OF THEM ALREADY. IF ISSUE ONE PASSES REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS IN THE BUCKEYE STATE WOULD BE PROTECTED BY THE OHIO CONSTITUTION. IF ISSUE TWO IS APPROVED, OHIO WOULD JOIN 23 OTHER STATES THAT HAVE LEGALIZED THE USE OF MARIJUANA FOR PERSONAL AND RECREATIONAL USE. POLLING SHOWS US VERY STRONGLY, FAIRLY STRONGLY. I SHOULD SAY, SUPPORT FOR BOTH OF THOSE ISSUES SO FAR. AND EXPERTS SAY THE OUTCOME WILL PROBABLY REFLECT A GENERAL REGIONAL DIVIDE. FOLKS WHO ARE 50 AND UNDER ARE VERY MUCH PRO ISSUE ONE AND THEY’RE VERY MUCH PRO ISSUE TWO AND ABOVE THAT AGE IT’S A LITTLE BIT MIXED, BUT THERE’S STILL SLIGHT MAJORITIES FOR THEM. SO IN ALL LIKELIHOOD, WE’RE GOING TO SEE A REALLY STRONG POLICY STATEMENT FROM OHIO VOTERS. PROFESSOR DAVID NIVEN WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI TELLING US SUPPORT DOESN’T NECESSARILY MATCH HOW VOTERS FEEL ABOUT THE CANDIDATES, THOUGH. AND THERE ARE PASSIONATE VIEWPOIN
