A new vegan cheese shop will open in Madisonville at the end of the month.

Mad Cheese, a Cincinnati brand that features artisanal, handcrafted plant-based cheeses and meats, will open its first brick-and-mortar store at 5903 1/2 Bramble Ave. in Madisonville. A public ribbon-cutting will be held Friday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m.

Owner Heather Donaldson launched Mad Cheese in March 2021. She and her husband, Reggie, credit the business’ growth to their commitment to making plant-based cheese and meat that aren’t far off from the real thing.

“My hope is that you will love our products whether you are vegan or not. The more we can eat plant-based food, the healthier we — and our planet — will be!” Donaldson said in a press release. “[I will test] over 100 different versions of a recipe before I feel like it is close enough.”

At the grand opening, customers can shop and try samples. Donaldson says, in addition to retail, she hopes Mad Cheese can be a community hub, with tastings, classes and events and offering space to highlight products from local businesses. The business is family-run, so Donaldson said the store’s hours will be limited, with it open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

"We've been overwhelmed by the support and can't wait to welcome everyone to our store. It's more than just a store; it's a celebration of great taste and sustainability." Donaldson said in the release. “Mad Cheese is all about providing Cincinnati with delicious, sustainable, and cruelty-free cheese alternatives, and the new store is the latest step in that mission.”
