Op-Ed: On Louisville Ballot Issues 2C-2H
Your elected City Council voted to place Ballot Issues 2C through 2H before you. We urge you to vote “yes” on all six. The authors argue that the current City Council has voted on Ballot Issues 2C through 2H, which amends Home Rule Charter provisions that have been unchanged for a quarter-century. They urge voters to vote "yes" on all six amendments, including 2E, 2C and 2G. They argue that these amendments would strengthen representative government by shortening ballots and avoiding costly special elections. They also argue that they would create a more reasonable threshold for placing initiatives and referenda on the ballot. Critics argue that 2E would not shift power away from residents focused on preserving Louisville’s values and character. The author also notes that the powers of initiative and referendum are reserved to the people and that 2 E takes effect only if Louisville voters approve it.
