Moving Forest Brings 70 Trees to Downtown Louisville
Seventy trees got choreographed and wheeled onto Jefferson Street — Louisville's wildest greening demo yet. The Moving Forest @ PickleY'all, a performance of 70 trees arranged into shifting formations in front of Metro Hall in downtown Louisville, was created by Patrick Piuma, director of the Urban Design Studio at the University of Louisville's Christina Lee Brown Envirome Institute. The event was part of downtown Louisville's PickleyY'alls festival and featured volunteers from UPS, Humana, and other corporate partners. The display was designed to show how street trees and plants could transform downtown. Once the performance concludes, the trees will be prepared for planting at Greenprint sites and locations tied to environmental-health research across the city. The project highlighted dozens of urban greening projects tied to Greenprint, a citywide partnership commissioned by the Louisville mayor's office and coordinated by the Enviromes Institute.
