This New 28,000-Square-Foot Louisville Museum Asks Visitors to Touch the Exhibits
Most museums ask visitors to keep their hands off the exhibits. New museum in Louisville, Kentucky, The Dot Experience, aims to give visitors with different abilities more independence without separate accessible tours or accommodations. The museum, which covers 28,000 square feet, allows visitors to interact with exhibits by touch and sound. During development, a guide dog's refusal to cross flooring strips led to a redesign of a replica of Helen Keller's silver scroll holder. Visitors can also explore Helen Keller’s personal materials and historical artifacts. The opening of the museum will be followed by a community panel at the Muhammad Ali Center on Wednesday.
